Seed to table

Seed to table is a session that we do from 10-1 on a Friday. In the session you do gardening or science experiments and cooking for your lunch. This week for Seed to table we are having minestrone soup, potatoe and leek bake, bread and apple and fejoa crumble. I was involved in the potatoe bake with Rosie, Naomi, Tane, Catilin, Edward, Eli and Jacob. While our group and group 1 were doing cooking groups 3 and 4 do a science experiment then after morning tea we are doing the science experiment and the others are doing baking. For the science experiment we got some seeds and wet some paper towels in water then got some seeds wrapped the paper towel around them and then we put the seeds in a plastic resealable bag. I chose pea seeds because I was interested in if they would grow.

Kapahaka portfolio sample term 2

Every Monday afternoon Poutama splits into two groups kapahaka and E T reo. I go to kapa Haka, kapa Haka is a performing group and E T reo is when you learn about the Maori culture and language.
For kapa Haka we are going to pae tamariki on the 28th of June. We have been practising really hard because we have been moved to the second day because we are more experienced in kapa Haka.

Feedback/ Feedforward: I like the way that the whole kapa Haka group is in time next time you could do better facial expressions. - Emily 

Evaluation: What is the hardest part about Kapa Haka and why? Keeping yourself committed to the group by doing facial expressions and making sure you are always focussed 
What are you most looking forward to about Pae Tamariki next week and why? I am most looking forward to going on stage and showing what rss can bring to the table.
Why do you think others should join Kapa Haka? Others should join because it is Learning moari culture and language in the form of song and dance.
I like doing kapa Haka because we are singing and dancing and that is what I am interested in.

Sportstart

Description: At the moment for P.E we have been doing sportstart which is a sports program, we go down to the courts twice a week to do the program. At sportstart have been doing different drills like Gateways, color rounders and rainbow strike.

Color Rounders:
First you have 4 hula hoops set up in a circle with a ball in each hoop and a bat in one, there are 8 people playing in each game 4 people stand in each hula hoop and the others are fielders they stand in between each hoop. One of the fielder bowls to the person with the bat once they have hit the ball, everybody in the hoop run around in circles until the fielder gets the ball, as the people in the hoops run around one person counts how many hoops they got, once every body has had a go at batting you switch roles.



Rainbow strike:
First split into two teams one fielding one batting, (this game must be played on a court with three thirds) one of the fielders bowl and the first one in line on the batting team bats, if it lands in the first third that's 1 point if it lands in the second third that 2 points and if it lands in last third that's 3 points, once everybody has batted switch roles.

Gateways:
For gateways you need lots of cones put out in twos with the cone a metre away from the pair this is the gateway. Each "gateway" has either a bean bag, tennis ball or a ring. Everyone gets a partner and then the pairs go to a gateway and start throwing the object to each other after a couple of minutes the teacher will either say change or change all and if they say change you will change to a different station with a different object if they say change all that means you do the same as change except you change partners as well.

Evaluation: i think that we were showing how to play gateways really well but if i were to change something i would make a more clear and better quality

Science portfolio sample term 2 2016

This term we having been learning about science and every friday we do inquiry. Nics group is learning about the moon, Troys group is learning about the weather and Ellys group is doing
Seed-To-Table. I have been working with troy and we got to choose what we wanted to focus on and I wanted to learn about snow and snow storms, then got to choose a experiment about our focus. My experiment was to make snow and then make a snow storm in a jar.
In Nics group we had that when we did our science priorities we had to go outside and measure the moon to the sun and to the horizon with our fists and find what shape the moon is. if we could not see the moon clearly you could go on this website to find the shape of the moon. After you have got the measurements and the shape you needed to make a sketch of the moon with the exact shape and measurements, then you would put it on your slide and blog.

In Troys science we have been doing weather experiments I chose as my focus on weather as Snow
and how does snow form and how does the snow turn into a snowstorm. I chose to do a snow and snowstorm experiment with Sophie because she is doing a similar question. We have made the snow and it turned out well and we are going to do a snowstorm expirment. The snowstorm turned out really well we used a jar, baby oil, white paint, water and alka seltzer we made the experiment and it turned out awesome

Evaluation: I think that I did a good job at making sure that Sophie and I were able to do the experiments because I bought in stuff for us to make our experiments more awesome. If we were to do it again I would try to be a bit more organised.

Cross country goal

Today is cross country and we were given a task to choose a goal for ourselves. 
My goal is to come in the top 5 because I want to go to interschool cross country and I want to beat Charlotte Hagan. I also want to come in the top five because I have been working hard
